CorbinRedhounds.com is an independent historical and community archive for Corbin athletics. This policy explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. We collect as little as we need to run the archive and the community, and we do not sell personal information.
The short version
- You can read the whole archive without an account.
- If you join, we keep your name, email, class year and the choices you make on the site.
- Your name and class year appear on what you publish, unless you choose to be hidden.
- We only email you what you ask for, and every email has a way to stop it.
- We never sell your information to anyone.
Information you give us
When you join the Redhound Community
To create an account we ask for your name, email address and a password. You can add your class year, your connection to Corbin (for example alumnus, family or fan), and, if you lettered, your number and sport. Passwords are stored by WordPress in encrypted form; we cannot see them.
If you apply for the Media desk, we also keep the credit line, outlet and sports you cover that you give us, so an administrator can review the application.
When you take part
The community features keep a record of what you do with them, so they can show it back to you and to others:
- I Was There marks on games you played in, coached or watched
- the seasons you choose on My Era
- requests to claim a historical profile, and any evidence you send with them
- forum topics and replies
- memories, photos, documents, corrections and other contributions, including your name, email and any credit line you choose
When you contact us
If you use the contact page, a correction form or email us at info@corbinredhounds.com, we keep your message and your contact details so we can answer and keep a record of what was changed.
What other people can see
The archive is public, so some of what you share is public too:
- Your name and class year appear with memories, contributions and forum posts you publish.
- Recently joined members may be listed by name and class year on the site.
- A role such as Player, Coach or In the Stands appears on a game memory only when it comes from your own I Was There mark.
You can choose to be hidden in your account settings. Hidden members do not appear in member lists, and their class year and role are not shown with what they publish. Your email address is never shown publicly.
Information collected automatically
Cookies and similar tools
- WordPress sets cookies when you sign in, so the site knows it is you.
- We set a small cookie for members so signed-in pages are built for you and not served from a shared cache.
- Your browser may remember small choices, such as hiding the announcement bar.
Analytics
We may use an analytics service, such as Google Analytics or a privacy-focused alternative, to understand which pages people visit and how they find the site. These services can use cookies and collect information like your browser type, device, approximate location and the pages you view. We use this only in summary form to improve the archive.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information for each visit, such as IP address, browser and the page requested. These logs are used for security and to keep the site running.
We send email only when you ask for it or when it is about something you did:
- game alerts and the Monday digest, if you choose them
- account messages, such as confirming your account or resetting a password
- notes about your contributions, for example when something you shared is published or when we have a question
You can change your email choices or unsubscribe at any time using the link in every alert or from your account. We use a third-party email delivery service to send our email. It processes your address only to deliver our messages.
Embedded content and third-party services
Some pages include content from other services, such as live video or highlight players, radio stations, maps and social media. When you view that content, the other service may collect information about you under its own privacy policy, even if you do not click on it.
Sponsor and partner placements may appear on the site. We count clicks on those placements so we can report totals to sponsors. We do not share your personal information with sponsors or advertisers.
How we use information
- to run the archive and your account
- to show your contributions, memories and participation where you put them
- to review contributions, claims and corrections
- to send the email you asked for
- to keep the site secure and prevent spam and abuse
- to understand, in summary form, how the site is used
Athletes in our coverage
CorbinRedhounds.com covers Corbin athletics, past and present. That coverage can include the names, numbers, positions, statistics, results and photographs of athletes, including current high school students. This information comes from public sources such as published rosters, game results, newspaper coverage, school and team publications and community contributions.
Appearing in this kind of editorial and historical coverage does not mean we are collecting private information about an athlete. We do not ask current students for private details, and we do not publish home addresses, phone numbers or similar personal information.
If you are a parent, guardian or student and want us to review a photo or detail about a current student, please use our Rights and Corrections page. We give requests about minors extra care.
Children
The site is meant for a general audience and is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account or sent us personal information, we will delete it. If you believe this has happened, please contact page.
Your choices
- Update your name, class year, connection and email choices in your account.
- Choose to be hidden from member lists.
- Unsubscribe from any email using the link in it.
- Ask us to correct information about you.
- Ask us to delete your account by contacting us. We will remove your account and your personal details.
Published contributions are part of the historical record. If you ask, we can remove your name from something you published, change how it is credited, or take it down.
How long we keep information
We keep account information while your account is open. We keep contributions and the record of how they were reviewed for as long as they are part of the archive, because that history is how we keep the record trustworthy. Email delivery logs and server logs are kept for a limited time for security and troubleshooting.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, including encrypted connections and limited administrator access. No website can promise perfect security, so please use a strong password that you do not use anywhere else.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so on the site or by email to members.
