Corbin Checks In at No. 5 in Class 4A RPI Rankings

The Redhounds sit among Class 4A’s top five, with a 4–2 record and schedule strength helping support their position in this week’s KHSAA ratings.

October football is here, and the Redhounds are firmly in the upper tier of Kentucky’s Class 4A RPI rankings.

Corbin checks in at No. 5 in this week’s KHSAA standings with a .67157 rating, placing the Redhounds behind Paducah Tilghman, Boyle County, Ashland Blazer and Highlands. Through six games, Corbin owns a 4–2 record and stands ahead of several teams with more wins and fewer losses.

That positioning gives some perspective on the Redhounds’ season. The record tells part of the story. The competition behind it adds another layer.

Corbin’s opponents’ winning percentage stands at .63393, while its opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage is .62924. The latter figure ranks second among all 38 teams in Class 4A, trailing only Logan County’s .63632.

Those schedule measures help explain why Corbin sits above teams such as North Oldham, Nelson County and Warren East, all of which carry 6–1 records. The Redhounds have two losses, but their overall RPI profile remains one of the strongest in the classification.

Corbin occupies the next position, with a .03590 advantage over sixth-place Covington Catholic. Spencer County, North Oldham and Elizabethtown are tightly grouped behind the Colonels, while Greenup County rounds out the top 10.

Elsewhere in the classification, Johnson Central ranks No. 14 with a .57131 RPI despite a 2–5 record. Its .83424 opponents’ winning percentage is the highest in Class 4A, another example of the weight schedule strength carries in the standings. Harlan County is No. 21, Perry County Central is No. 30 and Whitley County is No. 36.

For Corbin, this week’s rankings provide a strong position to build from as the regular season moves deeper into October. There is ground to gain on the four teams above the Redhounds and a field behind them looking to close the gap.

The next challenge is turning that top-five standing into more wins.
