Rodger Bird lettered four years in football, basketball and track at Corbin, and the Redhounds went 35-7 across his football career. He scored 212 points in the 1960 season, earned All-State honors in 1960 and 1961, and was named a high school All-American in 1961.

At Kentucky he rushed for 1,699 yards and 21 touchdowns, piled up 3,333 all-purpose yards, was a first-team All-American in 1965 and twice All-SEC, and was later honored as an SEC Football Legend. The Oakland Raiders took him in the first round, and he played six professional seasons.

By the measure of what a Corbin player went on to do, no one has a stronger résumé.
