Fast Start, Big Plays Carry Corbin Past Harlan County, 55-8

Corbin 55 Harlan County 8 Final · Friday, October 9, 2026 By CorbinRedhounds.com Staff · · 3 min read

Trey Person accounted for four touchdowns as Corbin overwhelmed Harlan County 55–8 at Campbell Field. The Redhounds paired an explosive first half with a dominant defensive effort, forcing a running clock after halftime and improving to 5–2.

The Redhounds scored on the ground, struck from long range through the air and gave Harlan County little room to answer Friday night, rolling to a 55-8 victory behind eight touchdowns and a defense that allowed just one scoring breakthrough.

Trey Person finished with three rushing touchdowns and a touchdown reception, while Mason Salmons threw four scoring passes to four different receivers. Corbin led 21-0 after one quarter and 41-8 at halftime, then added two more touchdowns during a second half that featured a running clock.

The victory moved Corbin to 5-2 and gave the Redhounds their second consecutive win. Harlan County dropped to 3-4.

Person supplied the first two touchdowns before the opening quarter reached its midway point. He scored on a 12-yard run with 8:11 remaining, then added a one-yard touchdown at the 6:09 mark. His early production put Harlan County in a hole that grew deeper when Salmons found Malachi Brown for a 15-yard touchdown pass.

Through one quarter, Corbin had already scored three times while keeping the Black Bears off the scoreboard. The balance was evident early: Person finished opportunities on the ground, and Salmons brought another dimension through the air.

Harlan County briefly narrowed the margin early in the second quarter. Brayden Morris reached the end zone on a 12-yard run and carried in the two-point conversion, bringing the Black Bears within 21-8.

Corbin’s response ended any momentum from that possession. With 9:49 remaining before halftime, Person scored from four yards out for his third rushing touchdown of the night. The Redhounds then delivered their longest scoring play of the game when Salmons connected with Tayton Cox for an 82-yard touchdown, stretching the lead to 35-8.

Those consecutive scores restored Corbin’s command, but the offense still had another big play before the break. With 1:02 left in the second quarter, Person added a receiving touchdown to his three rushing scores, taking a 69-yard pass from Salmons to the end zone.

The touchdown completed a 20-point second quarter for Corbin and established a 41-8 halftime advantage. Person had scored four of the Redhounds’ six first-half touchdowns, while Salmons had already thrown three touchdown passes.

Harlan County’s early second-quarter score proved to be its only one. Corbin’s defense held the Black Bears scoreless through the remainder of the half and both quarters after intermission, allowing the Redhounds to pull away without another response.

The defensive performance complemented an offense that required little margin for error. Corbin surrendered only eight points all night, and once Harlan County cut the lead to 13, the Redhounds answered with 34 consecutive points to close the game. The Black Bears were shut out in three of the four quarters.

Salmons added his fourth touchdown pass in the third quarter, connecting with Clay Akins from 35 yards out to extend the lead to 48-8. Akins became the fourth different Redhound to catch a touchdown pass, joining Brown, Cox and Person.

With a running clock in the second half, Corbin maintained its substantial advantage and continued to keep Harlan County out of the end zone. The Redhounds closed the scoring late in the fourth quarter when Cameron Nantz broke loose for a 59-yard touchdown run.

Corbin finished with four rushing touchdowns and four passing touchdowns. Person’s scoring runs covered 12, one and four yards, while Nantz supplied the longest rushing score. Salmons’ touchdown passes covered 15, 82, 69 and 35 yards, underscoring the big-play production that helped turn an early lead into a decisive result.

Six different Redhounds scored touchdowns: Person, Brown, Cox, Akins and Nantz reached the end zone, with Person accounting for four of the team’s eight scores.
